Nick my old friend. You taught me so much from day one at Blue Star Line about shipping do's and do not's and how to stamp your personality on things, which you certainly did in no small measure. For that and knowing you as a mate for so long I am forever grateful. RIP "sniffer".

Mr Richard Dunlop

Dear Nick. A business partner, a colleague and most of all a friend. We worked hard to build a successful Company together and it may have been tough at times but we always managed to enjoy ourselves, with lots of fun and laughter and never a cross word. They are very fond memories. I am sure you knew that you had the greatest respect from all that you worked with around the world,as a Master of your trade,a Gentleman and a very kind fellow. Rest in Peace. Tony

Nick, you were my best mate for years at school. My side kick during the havoc we sometimes caused, and a loyal companion during detentions. I look back with a smile on my face at those times. Rest in peace mate. An old friend Steve Freeman

Mrs Sarah Evans

Five years ago, when my family and I first moved into our home, we were greeted by a beautiful bouquet of flowers. That was our introduction to Nick. We didn't know it then, but that bouquet was more than just a welcome gift—it was the first seed of a deep and lasting friendship. We had bought our house from an avid gardener - Jeff who as Nick’s friend, but as working parents with young children, the garden was the last thing on our minds. To be honest, it was suffering. But Nick wouldn’t have it. He was a man who appreciated beauty and order, and he was determined to revitalise our garden. He didn’t just give advice; he showed up. He would be out there watering our plants even on the days we were home. In Nick’s world, there was a very specific exchange rate for this labor of love: he worked for Ceylon tea and Sri Lankan curry. It was the best deal I ever made. While Nick looked after our soil, I helped him with IT and Accountancy support. I was the first person he’d call for internet glitches, TV troubles, or the occasional tax query. I was always happy to oblige, because those moments of "tech support" usually turned into hours of shared wisdom. We would chat about everything—sports, politics, and current affairs. He was a man of immense experience and a truly colorful past. I loved hearing about his adventures, from his birth in Singapore to his days as a semi-professional junior tennis player. You could see that competitive, hard-working spirit in everything he did—even in his immaculate flower pots and the way he meticulously maintained his home. But beyond the gardens and the politics, Nick’s heart was always with his family. He spoke of his daughters, Sam and Natalie, with such pride and love. He often shared one of his few regrets with me—that he wished he’d spent even more time with them when they were young. He’d constantly tell me, "Spend as much time with your kids now as you can." It’s a piece of wisdom I will carry with me forever. He was equally devoted to his grandchildren. He would get so excited whenever they were coming to visit. In fact, he kept his hot tub running all year round—at no small expense, I’m sure—just so it would be ready for them to jump into the moment they arrived. Nick was a man of strong opinions. He certainly had a few choice words about the government and inheritance tax! He was so determined to leave as much as possible to his daughters, but I would always tell him the same thing: "Nick, they don't care about the money. They just want you to be happy and healthy for as long as possible." That was the essence of Nick: generous, kind, and genuinely invested in the people around him. He was a man who paid his gardener and cleaner well, fed his soul with good conversation, and cared for his neighbors like they were his own kin. Nick, the street feels a little quieter without you. The garden looks a little less bright. But we are so much richer for having known you. We will miss the tea, we will miss the WhatsApp chats, and most of all, we will miss your giant heart. Rest in peace, my friend. Wijay
